Colossians 2:12“For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with Him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.”
In this verse, Paul is talking about justification. At the moment of salvation, you are declared right by God. Justification is not based on anything we do, but on Jesus’ death on the cross. His death paved the way for us to receive salvation, which is a choice each of us makes. Confessing your sins and asking for forgiveness, makes Jesus the leader of your life. At salvation, you became fully identified with Him.
Take a moment to reflect on your salvation experience. Think about what was happening in your life, why you said "yes" to Jesus, and the changes that began to take place in your life once you accepted Him as your Lord and Savior. You have a new life and things you used to do before accepting Jesus, you no longer desire to do. You now realize those things were separating you from Him. You’ve discovered how God has better things for you to experience.
Water baptism represents dying to self, the washing away of our sins, and then rising again with Jesus Christ. It is an outward sign of an inward change that happens by faith in Jesus. It shows that we are in Christ and Christ is in us—that we are united with Him.
Baptism is an opportunity to put on display and give evidence of the saving grace of Jesus Christ in the life of a Believer. It gives us the privilege of making a public declaration of Jesus being our Lord and Savior which pleases God.
Each baptism reflects a beautiful story of life change—a person who was once dead in their sins is now raised to life in Christ. We will always celebrate these stories!
Perhaps you have yet to be baptized or you were baptized at a young age and would like to make this decision for yourself. What if 2025 was the year you stepped into the waters of Baptism and made a public declaration of your faith? We, as your faith community, would love to share that moment with you and celebrate!
Through salvation, we have trusted the mighty power of God that renews, redeems, and refocuses our lives. Today spend some time in prayer asking God for continued renewal, redemption, and refocus as we live each day with Jesus leading and guiding us.
