Day 17

1/29/2025

Do you have a favorite piece of clothing that you love to wear because it’s broken in and oh-so comfortable? Maybe there are a few stains on it or a little hole in the armpit is forming. Maybe the waistline on those comfy sweatpants is worn out, but they are still your go-to for lounging because they are so familiar...

Those favorite and familiar pieces of clothing are much like your sinful nature - you’ve spent so much time together. Sinful nature is so familiar, meaning it’s easy to give in to it. Maybe it’s all you’ve known for some time and you have regrets about your behavior and choices; yet, somehow you keep falling back into the trap. As you look over the years, can you see some patterns and the consequences of those choices? Has this rhythm become your default? Friends, today is a great day to get rid of that piece of clothing and that sin because it’s not who you are anymore!

Colossians 3:10 Paul writes, “Put on your new nature and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him.” You have a new nature! You get to know God and become more like Him.

As followers of Jesus, we have been redeemed and renewed. What does your new nature look like? In what ways has your new nature changed how you live, think, and treat others? With your new nature, you are a living example of the power of the gospel as your heart and mind continue to be transformed!

What do you do when your old nature and new nature meet, and try to coincide together? Jesus and sin do not mix because Jesus is greater than all of your sins. In all your ways, press forward to follow Jesus because your new identity is in Him. Allow Him to guide you, especially when your old nature is coming in strong. Ask Jesus to help you and He will. Remember, you have put on a new nature, and Jesus is the constant in your life. This new nature looks good on you… peace, patience, joy, hope, faith, and goodness are just a few ways your behaviors and attitudes begin to shift!

We get to know our Creator by spending time with Him. How do we do this? Practically speaking, if you drive to work or school, you may find yourself in silence, which can seem challenging in our fast-paced, always-on-the-go lives! In the silence, you’re creating space for God and your soul to speak. Ann Voskamp says, “You practice being present to His presence in this present moment.” When was the last time you listened to your soul?

Spending time with God also happens in environments where you feel close to Him - in nature by water, at a park, walking on a trail, or sitting in a specific spot in your home. It could be while you are running, swimming, creating art, playing an instrument, or cooking/baking. Think about those places where you feel so drawn, and then carve out time this week to go to your spot. Just BE, knowing God will BE there with you!

Throughout your day, meditate on Psalm 119:16 “I will delight in your principles and not forget your word.”
