August Week 2: God made me Wonderful and Wise!
Welcome back NewHope Families! It was such a joy to worship with your family today. We had a great time at NewHope kids! Today we continued our series learning about wisdom and God’s wonderful creation!
Today your elementary schoolers learned a parable Jesus taught us about seeing ourselves clearly. Jesus used an exaggerated example to teach us what it looks like to worry more about our own choices instead of the actions of others. Jesus said that we look for the plank in someone else’s eye and ignore the speck of sawdust in our own eye (Matthew 7:1-5). Today your child learned how Jesus can help us see ourselves clearly so we can learn how to make wise decisions. We can’t always control what others do, but we can be responsible for our own actions. This week, as your child faces situations that make them want to be frustrated with others, encourage them to stop and look in the mirror, to see what wise choices they can make in each situation.
Your preschooler learned how all people are made in the image of God, including them (Genesis 1:26-27)! God made us to be able to create, think, and help (Psalms 28:7, 104:24, 121:2; Proverbs 2:6; Acts 17:24). This week, we encourage you to make space for your child to be creative. Maybe this looks like drawing, or playing with playdough, or even baking. Draw your child back into this Bible story by saying some like, “Making things is fun! I think God had fun making people. God made ALL people, and they are all amazing and wonderful!”
