January Week 1: Jesus Taught us to Fast

Hey NewHope Families! It was so great to be back in person with you today! We had a blast in NH Kids as we dove into the teachings of Jesus. Our preschoolers learned about how Jesus had so many important things to share and people would come from everywhere to hear him (Mark 6:30-34). Jesus’ teachings were not only important for the people who were present with him, but are important for us as well. We can read all about Jesus’ teachings in the first four books of the New Testament. Our Elementary classrooms dove in a little deeper and learned about the greatest commandment that Jesus taught us to follow…To love God and love others. We encouraged the children to think of different ways they can put this into practice such as reading God’s words and obeying what God says or choosing to be kind to someone who isn’t always kind to us.

One important thing Jesus taught us to do is fast and pray. We know that many of you are participating in our church wide fast during the first 21 days of January. Maybe you have considered involving your children in your fasting experience. We know that fasting can feel like a challenging topic to talk about with children, so we wanted to provide you with some helpful resources as you have these conversations at home. You can CLICK HERE to read more about this. Although we don’t encourage children to fast meals, we do have a fun fasting challenge available for children, encouraging them to “give up” things in their life such as TV or dessert and “fill up” on things that will help them grow in their relationship with God. This challenge will be available at the NH Kids resource table from January 7th to January 21st.
